NIGHT works on the Burdekin River Bridge at Home Hill will reduce the Bruce Highway to single-lane traffic from Sunday, 7 August.

The restrictions will run from 7 August to Friday, 12 August, from 7pm-5am.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) said the work is to replace two damaged sloping cord braces on the bridge.

The braces are on the downstream side of the bridge (the southbound lane).

“Overall activities require the removal and replacement of about 40 damaged sloping cord braces on the Burdekin River Bridge,” the department said.

The work requires temporary lane closures, speed restrictions and wide load restrictions.

The department said heavy vehicles and machinery will be used to replace the braces with workers and machinery near live traffic lanes.

“While TMR will make every effort during these works to minimise impacts, road users can expect delays of up to 10 minutes,” it said.

“Please factor additional travel time into your journey.”

WIDE LOAD RESTRICTIONS
Oversize vehicles or wide loads of 3.4 m or wider will not be allowed to cross the bridge during the work.

The existing height restriction of 4.5 m remains in place.

The highway will reopen to oversize and wide loads from 5am-7pm each day and after the work is completed.

Wide load operators are advised to alternative travel plans.

For more information about the oversize and wide load restrictions, please contact the onsite supervisor by telephoning 0407 690 314.

Queensland Police and traffic controllers will be on-site while works are underway and to ensure priority access through the work zone for emergency services.

Road users are asked to drive carefully through the roadwork zones, follow the direction of traffic controllers and adhere to reduced speed limits.
