Testing times for the Burdekin

A drive-through COVID-19 testing facility is now open in Ayr. No referral or appointment is necessary, and testing is free.

Burdekin locals are now able to access COVID-19 PCR tests, with a facility open at the Ayr Showgrounds.

A spokesperson for Townsville Hospital and Health Service stated that the facility was primarily there to test people who are symptomatic but with RAT (Rapid Antigen Tests) in short supply, the facility will not turn away anyone requesting to be tested.

The testing facility is strictly drive-through and the site can be accessed via Mackenzie Street turning onto Craig Street.

Staff will be on hand to direct cars, and visitors are asked to be patient and comply with instructions and signage.

The facility will be open from 7.30 am to 3.00 pm on weekdays for the foreseeable future.
